The Villain is Heybike’s January 2026 entry into the Sur-Ron-style light electric dirt bike segment, and its whole argument is the price tag: $1,399 against the $3,000+ that a Talaria Sting or Sur-Ron Light Bee X commands. Electrek’s hands-on review concluded it is “a real product, not a spec sheet fantasy”, a meaningful judgment in a segment full of spec-sheet fantasies.
The powertrain is the headline. A mid-drive motor putting out 4,160W peak and 190 Nm of torque on a 125-pound bike launches hard enough that keeping the front wheel down is the challenge; Electrek timed 0-10 mph in under a second. The 52V 26Ah battery (1,352Wh, UL and UN38.3 certified) is genuinely large for the price, and while Heybike’s 50-mile range claim is optimistic, the realistic 35+ miles of spirited riding covers an afternoon of trail sessions. The FarDriver 80A controller is the sleeper feature: app-based tuning of throttle response, regen, and, critically for the parents this bike is clearly aimed at, top speed. A teen’s bike can be capped today and uncapped on a birthday.
What you give up against the big names: size and suspension headroom. The 14/12-inch mullet wheel setup makes this closer to a 110-125cc gas pit bike than a full-size machine, right for teens and smaller adults, cramped for big riders. The 150mm hydraulic fork and nitrogen rear shock are legitimate hardware for the money, but Electrek’s 200 lb reviewer bottomed them out where his 120 lb fifteen-year-old never did. That asymmetry tells you exactly who this bike is for.
The non-negotiable caveat: the Villain is not street legal, full stop, no pedals, no classification, 45+ mph. It belongs on private property and legal off-road trails, with a helmet and the kill-switch lanyard actually attached to the rider. For the family weighing one against the catalog’s siblings: the Sur-Ron Light Bee X and Talaria Sting R MX4 are bigger, better-suspended machines for committed riders at more than twice the price; the Villain is the way into the sport without spending dirt-bike-racer money on a maybe.
